Not a Fit
- Anyone looking for psychological and psychiatric information based on scientific evidence
- People with a serious mental health problem: the book is no substitute for professional treatment
- Readers bothered by a negative or harmful portrayal of the female body and sexual life
In the introduction Nusret Kaya calls the book a «book of healing» and says he wrote it for readers who cannot come to a psychiatric practice: the book is divided into three parts — «Selections from the Media», «Information Sessions» (conversation with a client) and «Dream Analysis Sessions» (selected from the author's 12,320 dreams), and at the end a «lower brain session». The author apologises to the intellectual reader for his «simple style» and says he chose the word «client» instead of «patient».
In the interview selected from the media the main theory is set out: the brain is described as an iceberg; the «upper brain» (the cortex, 28% of the brain according to the author) is for speaking, earning money and analysis; the «lower brain» (the remaining 72%) is the «conductor» of the organs and the place where RNA codes inherited from ancestors are stored. The author formulates his main thesis like this: 99% of women are under «womb dominance» and 99% of men have a «child lower brain»; so superficiality and fighting never end. No source is given for these figures.
In the next part of the interview the Western methods of psychoanalysis and dream analysis and the Eastern methods of meditation, yoga, Tao and Sufism are compared as ways of «descending to the lower brain». The author interprets the Qur'an's names «Rahman–Rahim» as a «masculine–feminine balance», quotes Attar's «Conference of the Birds» and Rumi, and matches the seven valleys to seven layers of the brain (subconscious, corpus callosum, thalamus, «Min», pituitary, «Giz», «depth of Truth»); these matches are presented as theory and no empirical confirmation is shown.
The «Information Sessions» begin as a conversation with a middle-aged woman: the woman complains that her children, daughter-in-law and grandchild show her no closeness; the author replies that «womb energy loves boys», so this is natural, and introduces the woman, citing Taoist, Sumerian and Egyptian sources, to the concepts of «vaginal orgasm», «female battery» and «womb libido». The dialogue does not put blame on the client, but ties the woman's whole problem to a lack of sexual education, and the text divides the female body into two types, «uterine» and «vaginal».
- The book is in a plain, spoken style; the author addresses directly the non-«intellectual» part of the readership and notes this himself
- The chapters are built from interview, client dialogue and dream analysis formats; each interpretation rests on the same theoretical scheme
- Facts and the author's hypotheses are not separated; studies and sources are not given
- In the interview mystical, religious and scientific terms are mixed in the same sentence
The historic classic text of dream analysis; the author's theory is influenced by Freud and Jung
A popular introduction to dream symbols
A modern popular book based on scientific research into sleep and dreams
At the end of the part read, the woman in the dialogue admits that she has never experienced vaginal orgasm in her sexual life, and the author says that this is the problem of 99% of society; the woman asks: «Is it because I have not discovered my female battery that I am not at peace with my womanhood in my lower brain — are most of my obsessions from this?» What follows is outside the scope of this review.
